Bereavement magazine was founded in 1987 by Andrea Gambill after more than ten years of support group leadership and grief counseling. Following the death of her seventeen-year-old daughter, Judy, in 1976, Andrea started one of the earliest groups of The Compassionate Friends. A few months later, she helped to organize the first National Board of Directors of TCF and served on that board until 1982. The stories, articles and poems in the magazine come from the bereaved themselves. The grief-stricken have both stories to tell and a need to know the stories of others.
